This CD is not what it seems:
It's a blatant rip-off of a major recording on a major label
Example 4: Joyce Hatto plays Rachmaninov - or rather, no she doesn't, Yefim Bronfman does - and no, isn't not the mysterious René Köhler and the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, it's the Philharmonia under Salonen. Another tip-off, this is actually a Sony recording issued in 2001. So far I've only been able to analyse a short excerpt from the third movement of the second concerto, whilst my colleague in the UK has independently worked on the third movement of the third concerto, but once again it's easy to hear that they're the same, and little, if anything, appears to have been done to disguise it. Note that no photos appear to exist of the conductor, 'René Köhler', and no orchestral player has claimed to have recorded with Hatto in the last 30 years. We can only conclude that all of her recordings with Köhler are as ficticious as the conductor himself appears to be. Technical note: We expect to have a higher resolution copy of the Bronfman CD recordings within 24 hours to replace those currently online, which were sourced from two different online retailers' sound clips.
The (reissued) Bronfman CD used to fake Hatto:
STORY LINKS:
We have yet to investigate a Hatto recording that has not proved to be a hoax.
*Sleevenotes included wherever present in original CD booklet. We provide sleevenotes either direct from record companies' digital source material or from our own scans. In the latter case we normally scan English language content and libretti only. Scanned notes pass through OCR software and can be treated as text files - all are offered as Adobe Acrobat PDFs.
