Chopin's
sense of melody in his piano music often lends itself to other instruments,
and the Nocturne in E flat works beautifully in this arrangement for cello
and piano. Once again Feuermann milks it for every ounce of romanticism,
and if you can for a few moments forget the original and let this work
its magic on you, you too may be as convinced as I am!
This
recording was made in Japan in 1936, and was originally issued in the
UK in a coupling with Schubert's Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano (PACM036),
which Feuermann recorded the following year with Gerald Moore at the keyboard.
